The story of the Now and Later began in 1962 at the Phoenix Candy Company. Another funny tagline about the name was that if you put one in your mouth, you could still be chewing it later because they are so deliciously chewy. The concept behind the name was all about how a person would like it now and definitely want some more later, hence the name Now & Later. There are still some small shops that sell Now and Later candy today but it’s mostly found at gas stations, corner stores, or small shops. It wasn’t long before Now and Later was sold across America at convenience stores everywhere. This 60s candy became an instant hit in New York City with people buying them for their kids to enjoy during lunch breaks or after-school snacks. You wait and wait and then when you least expect it, the flavor is released.

Now and later is the perfect name for this unique candy because if you put it in your mouth, there’s no immediate taste or pop of flavor. Now and Later was a revolutionary type of candy because it looked like any other hard-boiled lollipop but had one big difference: its delayed flavor release. The owner of this small business had been selling his goods for years but wasn’t seeing much success until he came up with a new idea: Now and Later candy. This candy store sold all kinds of candies from chocolate bars to gumballs and hard-boiled lollipops. In the early 1970s, there was a candy shop on Manhattan’s west side. It’s this hard square of candy that reminds you of a starburst but isn’t as juicy. So when it’s time to focus, just pass some time or just want to keep your mouth busy, Now & Laters have the iCandy seal of approval. Now and later candy has always been a winner. I normally don't prefer taffy due to how difficult it is to eat, but Now & Laters have hands down become my new favourite taffy and has made eating it an enjoyable experience. They included Cherry, Blue Rasberry and Strawberry and were made to be softer than the original recipe. The pack came with 18 pieces, divided into 3 groups of 6, each with a different flavor. Eventually, their slogan went from "Eat some now, Save some for later" to " Hard 'N Fruity Now and Soft 'N Chewy Later" - if you ask me that makes more sense because once I started to eat some, I didn't see me saving any for later - ate the whole thing in one shot. Now & Later Long Lasting Chews are a taffy-like candy sold in squares that are individually wrapped in paper, which were invented and marketed as a way to get the consumers to buy some to eat now, wrap up the rest and eat it later (hence the name). Although initially a hard candy, once moistened in your mouth quickly becomes like edible bubble gum and makes for an enjoyable snack that makes whatever you're doing a little sweeter. One of the first things I immediately noticed was the quality - it melts so easily once it's in your mouth and is the perfect amount of chewy without being overly sticky, indicating to me that high quality ingredients were used. Today for example I had my first Now & Later Fruit Chews experience, a classic retro candy. As a Candy Connoisseur it is my job to explore candies of all kind, and with the vast variety of treats and sweets available at the Candy Funhouse I often come across something I've never tried before.
